About The Trainer!

Patty Warren, LVT

I have been training dogs for almost 20 years and have now brought my vast range of experience to the Raleigh area.  I am a licensed vet tech, with extensive training in the field of behavior under the guidance of Dr. Emily Kinnaird.  I graduated from the prestigious DOGS! Course at Purdue University in 2003.  I was the second CPDT in the state of Virginia in 2003 and am a current member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) as well as the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).  I am also a CGC and AKC Trick Dog evaluator.

I have performed behavior evaluations for shelters and temperament tested many litters of puppies for rescues, service dog organizations and breeders.  Aside from owning 19 of my own dogs, both rescues and purebreds, I have also fostered a countless number of dogs.  My experience encompasses a wide variety of breeds, temperaments and behavior issues.

I have studied with the best dog trainers and handlers in the world, and believe that it's important to be flexible as every dog is different.  However, the foundation of all of my training is in positive reinforcement, management and enrichment.  The goal is to create a trusting and strong bond with the handler, so they can communicate effectively with each other.  I want people and their dogs to truly enjoy sharing their lives together.

I have competed in dog agility since 2002, as well as other sports, with a variety of dogs.  I have put multiple agility championships on my dogs and competed at the National level.  I have also trained my dogs in therapy dog work as well as other activities.  But regardless of my goals, it's important to me that my dog and I are having fun together and building our bond.  One of my favorite things to do with my dogs is teach all sorts of fun tricks.

Currently, I am offering private lessons in puppy training and basic manners, behavior modification and agility.  Together we work on foundation behaviors, communication and management based on the needs of you and your dog.  Whether the goal is to create a well mannered companion, work through severe behavior problems or compete at a high level, I can guide you on a fun and rewarding journey with your dog!

My other area of specialty is matching up homes with the right dog for them.  Not every dog is a good fit for every home, and whether you are adopting a rescue dog or working with an outstanding breeder, it's important to pick the puppy or dog that has the qualities you want to live with.  I can help you find a reputable breeder, or also assist in evaluating adoptable dogs.  So far, I have a 100% success rate in placements of the many foster dogs I've had, puppies of my own that I have placed and dogs that I have helped rehome to new families.
